Peter Brimelow, founder and editor of the white nationalist VDARE.com, began a May 20 op-ed for the internet conspiracy haven World Net Daily lamenting that seemingly no one in Washington has read the Heritage Foundation’s latest report on the fiscal costs of immigration. According to Brimelow, “It’s not the report’s fault. It’s beautifully written, logically compelling and marshals a lot of numbers with great skill.”
The Heritage Foundation report Brimelow refers to has sent the prominent conservative think tank into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. The report has drawn serious scrutiny from both the left and right due to the misleading methodology and the assumptions it operates from. Additionally, it was revealed that the report’s co-author, Jason Richwine wrote a doctoral dissertation heavily reliant on research and previous work associated with the racist Pioneer Fund.
The only ones seeming to defend the discredited report are anti-immigrant extremists such as Brimelow and Rep. Steve King (R-IA), as it is one of the few pieces of “credible” research they can use to defend their nativist views.
