Breaking news! Grassroots anti-immigrant group NumbersUSA has announced: “After weeks of work, our NumbersUSA team is ready to show you our evaluations of the 20 politicians who Real Clear Politics show are polling at 1% or higher for the 2016 Presidential Election.”
This is the much anticipated (cough, cough) NumbersUSA presidential candidate report card. Spoiler alert, NumbersUSA thinks most of the 2016 hopefuls aren’t up to snuff. The candidates may need to start making plans to repeat their immigration grandstanding over the summer. Unless, of course, they don’t subscribe to the NumbersUSA philosophy that tearing families apart and maintaining the status quo of an immigration process that doesn’t work for anyone are sensible public policy positions.
Roy Beck, the leader of NumbersUSA, has chosen to label these as “Worker-Protection Immigration Grade Cards” rather than “Anti-immigrant, Restrictionist Grade Cards,” but coming from him, I say six of one, half dozen of another. Here’s a quick summary of the results from their website (who knew that F- even existed?):
NumberUSA has promised (threatened?) to keep updating the scorecards every week until the end of the primary season and is asking their supporters to contact their preferred candidates and urge them to stake out more extreme positions on immigration. No word yet on how candidates have responded to their grades. But we’ll keep you posted.
