There Goes the Neighborhood: May 6, 2016

Imagine2050 Staff • May 06, 2016

There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, anti-immigrant activists are holding events in California and Oregon.

On Saturday, May 7, anti-immigrant activists in Temecula, California will hold a rally in support of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Hosted by a loosely organized group called “Riverside for Trump,” the event is being heavily promoted by California anti-immigrant group We the People Rising. Featured speakers at the event include Maria Espinoza, of The Remembrance Project, and leading birther conspiracy theorist Orly Taitz. Activists behind tomorrow’s rally held a similar pro-Trump event at the same location in March.

Also on Saturday, May 7, anti-immigrant group Oregonians for Immigration Reform (OFIR) will hold a membership meeting in Salem, Oregon. The featured speaker at the meeting will be Dr. Bud Pierce, an Oregon Republican gubernatorial candidate. OFIR’s last meeting was held in January, and was largely focused on a set of nativist ballot measures the group has been instrumental in advancing in Oregon.

Additional information on these events and others can be found in the map below. The events scheduled for next week are marked with red stars.
