There Goes the Neighborhood: May 13, 2016

Imagine2050 Staff • May 13, 2016

There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, anti-Muslim activists are speaking in California, North Carolina, and Ohio.

Today, May 13, anti-Muslim activist David Horowitz is speaking in Los Angeles, California at an event organized by the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Horowitz will discuss his new book about so-called “progressive racism.” The book is the latest volume in his series, The Black Book of the American Left. Last week, Horowitz’s Freedom Center hosted anti-refugee activist James Simpson.

On Sunday, May 15, anti-Muslim activist Bill French (also known by the pseudonym Bill Warner) will speak in Pinehurst, North Carolina at an event organized by the Moore Republican Women. French runs the Tennessee-based Center for the Study of Political Islam. For years, French has been a virulent and bigoted critic of Islam and Muslims. He has previously described hijabs as a “hate symbol, just in the way the Klan outfit is symbolic of racial hate to a black man.”

Finally, Brigitte Gabriel, the founder and president of grassroots anti-Muslim group ACT for America, has three consecutive speaking engagements in Ohio this week. On Sunday, May 15, Gabriel will speak in Columbus, Ohio. The noted anti-Muslim spokesperson will follow up that event with presentations in Middletown, Ohio and Broadview Heights, Ohio on Monday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 17, respectively. All three events are being promoted by local ACT chapters as “intelligence briefings” similar to Gabriel’s recent appearances in Virginia, Florida, and California.

Additional information on these events and others can be found in the map below. The events scheduled for next week are marked with red stars.
