There Goes the Neighborhood: February 19, 2016

Imagine2050 Staff • Feb 19, 2016

There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, an anti-immigrant activist will hold a book signing in California and two prominent leaders of nativist groups will speak at a religious broadcasters conference in Tennessee.

On February 20, Brotherhood Organization for a New Destiny (BOND) leader Jesse Lee Peterson will hold a book signing and Q&A in Los Angeles, California. Peterson has authored a new book, The Antidote: Healing America from the Poison of Hate, Blame and Victimhood. Peterson’s organization has previously been listed as a state contact group by leading anti-immigrant group Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and Peterson was a founding member of the now-dormant anti-immigrant front group Black American Leadership Alliance (BALA). Peterson also claims to be a “proud member” of the conspiracy-minded John Birch Society.

Also next week, two nativist leaders will speak on panels during the National Religious Broadcaters’ Proclaim 16 conference in Nashville, Tennesee. On Wednesday, February 24 and Friday, February 26, Roy Beck, founder and president of anti-immigrant group NumbersUSA, will speak during a “presidential candidates forum” at the conference. NumbersUSA representatives have attended previous NRB conventions. And last April, NumbersUSA Vice President of Operations, Jim Robb, was approved by the NRB’s executive committee to become a member of the NRB.

And on Thursday, February 25, the conspiracy-peddling, anti-Muslim think tank and hate group Center for Security Policy has sponsored a panel discussion at the NRB conference titled “Why the Jihadists Want to Take Away Our Freedom of Speech — And How Our Government and the Left are Helping Them Do it.” Panel participants include CSP founder Frank Gaffney and Jerry Boykin, who regularly works with Gaffney and has urged Americans to “have more babies” in order to stave off growth in the American Muslim population.

Additional information on these events and others can be found in the map below. The events scheduled for next week are marked with red stars.
