There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.
This week, a rising star on the anti-Muslim speaking circuit heads to Ohio.
Former Department of Homeland Security employee Philip Haney will speak at three separate events in Ohio this week sponsored by local chapters of anti-Muslim grassroots group ACT for America. On Monday, August 29, the Cleveland ACT chapter will host Haney’s first “national security briefings” in Broadview Heights, Ohio. Haney will then head to Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday, August 30 and Norwood, Ohio on Thursday, September 1.
Haney has become a popular speaker in anti-Muslim circles since last December when he publicly alleged the federal government was censoring materials critical of Islam. He and other anti-Muslim activists were invited to testify before a Senate Judiciary subcommittee in July. He also participated in a June Capitol Hill briefing for congressional staff organized by ACT for America and is scheduled to speak at the group’s national conference.
Additional information on these events and others can be found in the map below. The events scheduled for next week are marked with a red star.
