There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.
This week, Oregon’s leading anti-immigrant group holds an anti-refugee meeting with guest speaker from Montana.
On Saturday, August 13, a meeting in Salem, Oregon will feature a presentation by strident anti-immigrant activist Paul Nachman. Nachman, who lives in Montana, is a regular contributor to the white nationalist website VDARE.com and has worked with chapters of ACT for America, the notorious anti-Muslim grassroots organization.
As Imagine 2050 noted late last month, the meeting is being organized by anti-immigrant group Oregonians for Immigration Reform (OFIR). The meeting is OFIR’s first since the organization formally abandoned signature gathering efforts to place several anti-immigrant referendums on the November ballot. The Southern Poverty Law Center later reported that Jacob Daniels, Donald Trump’s Oregon campaign manager, will also speak at the meeting.
On Tuesday, August 16, anti-immigrant group Texans for Immigration Reduction and Enforcement (TFIRE) will hold a meeting in Houston, Texas. TFIRE’s guest speaker will be Florida-based attorney Sara Blackwell. Blackwell has worked with leading anti-immigrant groups NumbersUSA and Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). TFIRE and OFIR were both previously listed on FAIR’s as state contact groups.
