Steve Stockman, Anti-Immigrant Rep., Fails to Report Thousands in Campaign Contributions

Since his surprise announcement to run for Senate rather than seek reelection in the House, far-right firebrand Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) has been subject to increased scrutiny.

An analysis of Rep. Stockman’s campaign finances this week has revealed discrepancies that may affect the Senate hopeful’s chances at unseating current Texas Sen. John Cornyn. Earlier this week, the Sunlight Foundation “found at least $16,000 in contributions that political action committees reported giving to Stockman during the past two years but that his campaign didn’t report getting.”

The discrepancies in finance reporting are the latest hurdle facing a campaign that was an uphill battle from the start. As Sunlight also notes in its analysis, “Stockman’s congressional committee still has more than $150,000 in debts and loans left over from the candidate’s successful 2012 bid.”
