Roy Beck, president of the anti-immigrant lobbying group NumbersUSA, was scheduled to appear PBS NewsHour at 6 pm EDT yesterday evening (6/25). Beck himself penned an announcement, claiming he was due to doll out some knowledge on the SCOTUS’s SB 1070 ruling. He wrote, “Many of you ask us to alert you when someone from NumbersUSA will be on a major television network. We don’t always have advance notice, but we have some today.” Just fifty one minutes after said alert was issued, however, Beck was again flooding inboxes:

Sorry about the earlier alert about me being on PBS’ [sic] NewsHour. They went another direction at last minute. But below is what I would have said about the meaning of the Supreme Court decision today.

Beck, who once spoke before the annual conference of  the white nationalist Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC), and who heads up a group that itself has ties to white nationalism, was oddly not forthcoming in explaining why producers at PBS “went in another direction.” Beck, though, did end his cancellation/apology email with the following: “Fortunately, all states now have a bright green light from the Court to follow Arizonas [sic] lead in enforcing the laws in the way that Congress intended.”

According to a map released this morning by Mother Jones, a majority of states are clearly choosing not to stumble blindly along behind AZ’s legislature, as “from 2010 to 2011, 30 state legislatures rejected bills modeled after Arizona’s.”
