Brenda Walker is one busy extremist. In addition to being one of the most prolific scribes within the anti-immigrant movement, Walker also regularly publishes within circles that overlap the white nationalist movement in this country, as evidenced by the near daily appearances of her work on Peter Brimelow’s VDARE.com. Beyond VDARE, Walker operates her own sites, LimitsToGrowth.org and ImmigrationsHumanCost.org, where many of her pieces that appear on Brimelow’s nativist hub “academic” racism first appear.
One recent example of Walker cross-posting between one of her own sites and Brimelow’s came in the form of a blog titled, “Britain: Negative Demographic Milestones Are Noted.” Those who follow Walker’s writings closely are familiar with her favorite topics: the evils of creeping Islam and the instinctual drive of Muslims to perpetrate violence. What this blog clearly displays is a true root-concern that Walker, Brimelow, and their colleagues like Wayne Lutton (pictured above) at The Social Contract Press (Walker is listed as the press’s “West Coast Editor” on its letterhead) share-white nationalism.
It’s worth recognizing that the particular brand of white nationalism shared by the aforementioned is often thinly veiled as a concern for shifting racial or ethnic demographics in America and Europe, which supposedly lead to vast and irreversible destructions of social order and cultural hygiene that stem directly from the eroding of white-European demographic dominance.
Walker’s piece evidences this for us:
“Demographic changes in high-immigration areas can be breathtaking these days, as we see the accumulation reach unfortunate markers. One example: the population of London is no longer majority white because of immigration, the high birth rates of newbies and a classic case of white flight.
Another shocker: the number of Muslims residing in the UK has doubled in the years between 2001 and 2011.”
The racist overtones here are undeniable, but that hasn’t prompted Brimelow from denying that VDARE is a white nationalist website. In his site’s “FAQ” section, Brimelow has penned a lengthy denial, in which he writes, “the merest glance would show that we are not “white nationalist.” “Merest,” being the key word; however, two sentences later Brimelow laughably concedes the following:
“We also publish on VDARE.COM a few writers, for example Jared Taylor [who recently accepted two speaking gigs organized respectively by a white nationalist and a neo-Nazi], whom I would regard as “white nationalist,” in the sense that they aim to defend the interests of American whites. They are not white supremacists. They do not advocate violence. They are rational and civil. They brush their teeth.”
Which is to say, it’s all well and good to be a racist as long as you’re educated, have internalized the Rhetorical Triangle, don’t swill beer with brutish neo-Nazi’s, etc. Such an equating on Brimelow’s part is as “rational” as claiming a Disney film like The Lion King influences children towards internalizing a pathos of radical animal rights simply because the writers and animators indulge the pathetic fallacy, or that, that same film is an allegory that promotes the patriarchal virtues of polygamy because “Simba” returns to his pride and its female members. Both arguments are as ridiculous as Brimelow’s fragile defense.
“They brush their teeth.” Really.
All this in mind, Brimelow gets to the root of his, Walker, Lutton, and the Social Contract Press’s mutual root-prejudice at the end of his piece, when he yet again indulges the absurd in a rhetorical shoulder-drop that shifts the blame for any rise of white nationalism onto the mere presence of immigrants themselves. Picking up directly after the brushing teeth characterization, Brimelow continues:
“But they [white nationalists] unashamedly work for their people—exactly as La Raza works for Latinos and the Anti-Defamation League works for Jews.
Get used to it. As immigration policy drives whites into a minority, this type of interest-group “white nationalism” will inexorably increase.
You read it first on VDARE.COM—and if you don’t like it, let’s have an immigration moratorium now.”
So, ban immigrants to eradicate racism? Really?
VDARE and The Social Contract have gone as far as to strictly call for a moratorium on all Muslim immigration. Back on August 31, 2012, Walker wrote in a blog post that appeared on VDARE that “America should pay attention and end Muslim immigration before it’s too late.” The Social Contract Press has called for a similar total moratorium on all immigration, also extending further into bigoted redundancy by dedicating the fall 2010 issue of its quarterly journal to promoting a ban on all Muslim immigration in an issue Lutton and his fellow editors titled, “The Menace of Islam.” Long-time Social Contract associate and major player within the John Tanton Network of anti-immigrant groups, KC McAlpin, even doubled-down, defending the issue in an post on the main page of the Social Contract’s site.
But, hey, since 9/11 it’s in-vogue for the likes of the aforementioned to single-out Muslims for such bigotry, which makes our task this-recognizing that Walker and others are targeting Muslims and Islam not just because they’re Islamophobes; they also recognize that seizing upon present international cultural conflicts that concern the average American affords them the opportunity to inject their brands of nativism and anti-immigrant bigotries into on-going, poignant national debates.
We are also charged with recognizing that these attempts at influence are the graspings of extremists.
Can Brimelow pen a sarcastic defense of one of Walker’s blogs from October, one which appeared on VDARE and LimitsToGrowth.org, in which she applauded the efforts to fight Muslisms and creeping Islam of two fringe European political parties, the origins of both of which can be traced to neo-fascist and even some neo-Nazi activists? Or, when neo-Nazi skinhead Wade Michael Page, a violent non-teeth brusher by Brimelow’s gauging, gunned-down Sikh immigrants and a police officer in Wisconsin, was Brimelow being “rational” and “unashamedly [doing] work for [his] people” when he quipped, “What are Sikhs doing in Wisconsin anyway?”
Here’s a rational thought-extremism begets extremism, regardless of personal hygiene.
