Obama camp criticizes Romney for ties to Sheriff Joe, Kris Kobach, and Trump

After Romney made a campaign trail quip about Birther conspiracy theories, and one of his advisors, Kris Kobach, filed suit against DHS head Janet Napolitano over Obama’s Deferred Action policy, the President slammed the GOP nominee for his coziness with far-right extremists.

The Obama campaign read Romney’s comment as a hat tip to Trump’s theories and hit him for declining to put real distance between himself and some of his more incendiary supporters.

“Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them. It’s one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff [Joe] Arpaio, and Kris Kobach,” Obama spokesperson Ben LaBolt said in a statement. “But Governor Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America.”
