#NotARandomRacist_ Dan Stein

Dan Stein is the president of the Federation of American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the flagship group of the organized anti-immigrant movement, founded in 1979 by John Tanton. In 1982 Stein accepted a position as the press secretary of FAIR and over the years rose through the ranks. Now in his 32nd year with FAIR, he is the longest serving employee of any organization leading the anti-immigrant movement. Stein is one of the most cited spokespeople within this racist movement. He is often misrepresented as an expert on immigration by mainstream media outlets, despite Stein and FAIR having a well-documented history of controversial affiliations and outright bigotry. Stein’s general disdain for immigrants takes on many forms, questioning anything from their intelligence to their loyalty to the United States.

Stein’s own racist worldview was clearly illustrated when, after FAIR’s founder John Tanton was publicly denounced for his white nationalist beliefs, Stein dismissed the allegations of racism and remains in full support of Tanton to this day, even calling him a “renaissance man.”

Over the years, with Stein at its helm, FAIR has solicited funds from the eugenicist and racist foundation the Pioneer Fund. He has publicly denigrated strides made during the civil rights era, and publicly mocked the tribulations of African Americans. In addition to his position as FAIR’s president, Stein has served as an editorial adviser of The Social Contract, John Tantons’s hate-filled journal that promotes a wide spectrum of outright racist ideas.
