According to a flyer posted on the group’s website and reported by NBC affiliate KOAA, the Alabama chapter of the Infidels Motorcycle Club (IMC) will host a barbecue “in defiance of the Islamic Holiday of Ramadan” on Saturday, July 11.
This event flyer is nearly identical to a similar event last weekend in Colorado.
The event appears to be inspired by a similar event IMC’s Colorado Springs chapter held last Saturday, June 20. The flyer for the upcoming Alabama event is nearly identical to the one advertising the Colorado Springs event that CBS affiliate KKTV reported on last week.
IMC website indicates that it has chapters in other states including Arizona, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
Last month, in Phoenix, Arizona, anti-Muslim activist John Ritzheimer, put a call out to local bikers and organized a so-called “Freedom of Speech” event at a mosque while worshipers gathered for Friday prayers. While many anti-Muslim demonstrators, including several neo-Nazis protested outside, some accepted Muslims’ invitation to join them inside the mosque during Friday prayers.
“It was something I’ve never seen before. I took my shoes off. I kneeled. I saw a bunch of peaceful people. We all got along,” one protester told the Washington Post afterwards. “They made me feel welcome, you know. I just think everybody’s points are getting misconstrued, saying things out of emotion, saying things they don’t believe.”
