Leah Durant, Executive Director of the anti-immigrant front group Progressives for Immigration Reform and founder of the Black American Leadership Alliance, has shown her true political leanings once again. Last week, the campaign of E.W. Jackson announced that Durant would chair the controversial candidate for Virginia Lt. Governor’s “Women for Jackson” coalition. “[Jackson] will be a Lieutenant Governor focused from day one on helping people from all walks of life on the issues that matter most,” Durant claimed in a September 5 statement.
E.W. Jackson’s history of vehemently bigoted statements suggests otherwise. Jackson has consistently attacked LGBT persons, entertained conspiracies by publicly questioned President Obama’s apparent “Muslim sensibilities,” and claimed liberals “have done more to kill black folks whom they claim so much to love than the Ku Klux Klan, lynching and slavery and Jim Crow ever did.”
Durant’s work with the Jackson campaign is the latest in her ongoing conservative activism and efforts to grow the fringe anti-immigrant movement’s supporter base.
