Last weekend, the neo-Confederate League of the South (LoS) unveiled a new billboard in Tallahassee, Florida. The white billboard features the word “secede” in large black letters along with LoS’ website and stands on a street leading towards the Florida State Capitol. Photos posted on the white nationalist blog Occidental Dissent show LoS member Michael Cushman posing with the billboard (photo below). Cushman is currently Chairman of South Carolina’s LoS chapter and responsible for much of LoS’ rebranding efforts over the past year including a new “Southern nationalist” flag from which the billboard takes several design cues. Previously, Cushman was a dues-paying member of the neo-Nazi National Alliance. Despite attempts to distance itself from stigmatized confederate imagery and increasingly radical movement members like Matthew Heimbach, LoS appears committed as ever to an all-white homeland in the American Southeast.
