The Heritage Foundation is co-sponsoring a symposium to address the accountability for the 2012 Benghazi attacks that will take place on June 16 and feature prominent members within the organized Islamophobia movement. Frank Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy (CSP) and the Benghazi Accountability Coalition, a group founded by Andrew C. McCarthy, are also listed as co-sponsors of the event.
McCarthy is responsible for moderating the introduction and conclusion, titled “Just the Facts … But All of Them This Time!” The symposium will consist of three panels covering topics ranging from addressing the unanswered questions about the Benghazi attack to the challenges of setting up a select committee in Congress. The objectivity of the event, however, remains in question considering the panels are stacked with far-Right, anti-Muslim conspiracy theorists who already ready have established track records of politicizing Benghazi.
Panelists of note include:
- Anti-Muslim demagogue and ACT! for America president Brigitte Gabriel.
- CSP president and anti-Muslim conspiracy theorist Frank Gaffney.
- CSP fellow and Clarion Project board member Clare Lopez.
- Family Research Council vice president Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin.
It’s unclear what Heritage Foundation is aiming to achieve with this symposium. If its intent was to host a fair, unbiased panel surrounding Benghazi, they cast the wrong set of characters.
