There Goes the Neighborhood: September 2, 2016

Imagine2050 Staff • Sep 02, 2016

There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, the country’s largest anti-Muslim grassroots group hold its national conference, and two other east coast events featuring nativist spokespeople.

As Imagine 2050 noted this week, anti-Muslim grassroots group ACT for America will hold its annual conference in Washington, D.C. beginning Tuesday, September 6 through Wednesday, September 7. This year’s conference will once again include a trip to the U.S. Capitol where conference goers will hear from U.S. lawmakers sympathetic to ACT’s extremist agenda.

Also on Tuesday, September 6, Stephen Steinlight will speak in New York City, New York. Steinlight is a senior analyst at the anti-immigrant think tank Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). Steinlight will speak at a meeting of the Gertrude and Morrison Parker West Side Republican Club. Steinlight regularly speaks at such events across the country and has previously advocated virulently bigoted and extremist positions. In July 2014, Steinlight told a Florida Tea Party group that he supports the public execution of President Obama.

“We all know, if there ever was a president that deserved to be impeached, it’s this guy,” Steinlight said. “Alright? And I wouldn’t stop. I would think being hung, drawn, and quartered is probably too good for him.”

Finally, on Thursday, September 8, Zuhdi Jasser will speak in McLean, Virginia. Jasser will give a presentation titled, “Fighting for Victory Against Islamism: A Muslim Blueprint for the West.” Jasser, who is Muslim, has regularly associated with anti-Muslim groups and frequently serves to validate anti-Muslim arguments. Jasser’s presentation is organized by the Westminster Institute.

Additional information on these events and others can be found in the map below. The events scheduled for next week are marked with a red star.
