There Goes the Neighborhood: July 8, 2016

Imagine2050 Staff • Jul 08, 2016

There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, noted anti-Muslim individuals speak at a religious conference in Maryland.

Anti-Muslim activist Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Jerry Boykin will speak at The Bridge conference, taking place today and Saturday, July 9, in Silver Spring, Maryland. The annual conference is organized by International Christian Concern and this year’s installment is “focusing on the Disappearing Church of the Middle East.” The conference began yesterday with a session on Capitol Hill featuring several lawmakers.

Boykin, Executive Vice President of bigoted Family Research Council, has an extensive record of anti-Muslim animus. He has previously claimed Islam “should not be protected under the First Amendment.” In February, Boykin spoke on a panel at the National Religious Broadcasters conference alongside noted anti-Muslim conspiracy theorist Frank Gaffney.

Also speaking at The Bridge conference this weekend is Sebastian Gorka, a national security editor at Breitbart News and a paid consultant to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Gorka was a featured speaker at an event in Riverside, California last month.

Additional information on this event and others can be found in the map below. The events scheduled for next week are marked with red stars.
