There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, events in Oregon, California, and New York.

On Saturday, April 8, anti-immigrant group Oregonians for Immigration Reform (OFIR) will host a meeting in Salem, Oregon. Jessica Vaughan, of the anti-immigrant think tank Center for Immigration Studies, will be a featured speaker at the event. Vaughan is also slated to speak at Lewis & Clark College’s Annual International Affairs Symposium in Portland, Oregon on Tuesday, April 11.

Also on Saturday, April 8, anti-Muslim firebrand Nonie Darwish will speak in Corona, California. Darwish will speak to members of the local chapter of anti-Muslim grassroots group ACT for America. Last week, Darwish spoke at an event organized by the anti-Muslim David Horowitz Freedom Center (DHFC). Her book, Wholly Different: Why I Chose Biblical Values Over Islamic Values, was recently published.

On Tuesday, April 11, DHFC fellow Bruce Thornton will speak in Mountain View, California at an event sponsored by The Conservative Forum of Silicon Valley. Thornton will give a presentation titled “The Progressive Dismantling of the Constitutional Order.” He has previously described undocumented immigrants as an existential threat, invoking to racist 1973 novel The Camp of the Saints.

Finally, on Thursday, April 13, the Long Island chapter of ACT for America will host a meeting in Hauppauge, New York. German anti-Muslim activist Heidi Mund will speak at the event. Mund is the not the Long Island chapter’s first European guest. Last year, the group hosted British anti-Muslim activist Paul Weston.
