There Goes the Neighborhood: April 14, 2017

Imagine2050 Staff • Apr 14, 2017

There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, Minnesota anti-refugee activists hail the president on Tax Day.

On Saturday, April 15, anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim activists will hold a “Celebrate President Trump” rally in Wilmar, Minnesota. As Bluestem Prairie reports, Ron Branstner and Bob Enos are involved organizing the event. Branstner and Enos have been some of the most prominent purveyors of anti-refugee and anti-Muslim sentiment in west central Minnesota.

Previously involved with the border vigilante Minutemen movement, Branstner has returned to his home state of Minnesota and focused on giving anti-refugee presentations in the upper Midwest. During previous presentations, Branstner has distributed materials from bigoted conspiracy-peddling outfits like the John Birch Society and Tennessee anti-Muslim activist Bill French. Enos, who has spoken at anti-refugee alongside Branstner has unsuccessfully run for Wilmar city council twice on an anti-refugee platform.

Several Minnesota state representatives are also slated to speak at Saturday’s event.

Additional information on this event and others can be found in the map below. A red star indicates events scheduled for next week.
