Jan Brewer
On April 9, former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer will be the keynote speaker at the Lane County Republican Party’s 2015 Lincoln Day Dinner in Eugene, Oregon. Cynthia Kendoll, an anti-immigrant activist and president of Oregonians for Immigration Reform (OFIR) will also be in attendance. A listing on OFIR’s website published this week notes Kendoll has been invited to the event as a “special guest.”
Kendoll and OFIR have collaborated closely with the national organized anti-immigrant movement. While working on a referendum campaign to prevent undocumented immigrants from receiving driving privileges in Oregon, Kendoll disparaged immigration as “an organized assault on our culture.” The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a leading organization within the anti-immigrant movement, provided financial support for the 2014 campaign.
FAIR attorneys Kris Kobach and Michael Hethmon also worked with former Arizona State Sen. Russell Pearce to draft the state’s notoriously anti-immigrant SB 1070 legislation that then-Gov. Brewer signed into law in 2010.
