The question was in response to Youth for Western Civilization (YWC), an organization whose motto is “defending the West on campus.” In the MSNBC article, the group’s leader, Kevin DeAnna was quick to quash accusations of racism and ties to white nationalism, stating, “A lot of our opponents seem to just make things up.”
Contrary to DeAnna’s statement, just yesterday disturbing new information about YWC’s white nationalist ties came to light.
On Wednesday, May 11, the white nationalist organization American Renaissance published an article on its website about an upcoming event in Washington DC. The article was written by Sid Secular, the Director of the National Capital Area Chapter of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC). Secular announced that Mr. John Wolfe would be speaking at a CofCC event in Washington DC later this month. Wolfe’s speech is titled “Youth for Western Civilization” and, according to Secular, Mr. Wolfe is “an activist with YWC.”
The article was removed from American Renaissance’s website hours after it appeared. In the past, YWC chapters have invited white nationalists such as Richard Spencer to speak at meetings, but the news that a YWC activist is due to speak at a CofCC meeting is extremely disturbing.
The CofCC comes out of the old white citizens councils of the 1960s. The organization has called African Americans a “retrograde species of humanity” and its annual conferences have featured dozens of white nationalist speakers throughout the years, including Jared Taylor, the founder of the white nationalist organization American Renaissance, and Sam Dickson, a former lawyer for the Klu Klux Klan.
More disturbing, Secular’s post on the event indicates that this is the second time that John Wolfe has spoken to this chapter of the CofCC. According to Secular, Wolfe “was the speaker at our last Chapter event representing the Carrying Capacity Network…”
Youth for Western Civilization likes to claim that there is not a racial element to its opposition to affirmative action, immigration and the “threat” posed by Sharia law. But the group’s numerous links to white nationalist organizations and individuals indicates otherwise.
YWC needs to be exposed for what it is, a group with irrefutable ties to white nationalism.
