Biking Beyond Bigotry Launches in Arizona

Imagine 2050 Staff • Apr 28, 2011

The Center for New Community, a national civil rights organization based in Chicago, is sponsoring a bicycle speaking tour on wheels, called Biking Beyond Bigotry. Over the course of the next week ten environmentalists from across the nation will pedal 330 miles to speak out against the greening of hate.

The bikers set off tomorrow morning in Flagstaff, Arizona and will end their tour in Tucson, Arizona on Thursday, May 5.

The core riders will bike to selected stops in Arizona including: Flagstaff, Prescott, Phoenix and Tucson.  The stops will include conversations with local environmental communities on topics of immigration myths and facts around population stabilization, the anti-immigrant movement’s attempts to green bigotry, and steps that environmentalists can take to counter such attacks.

The initiative of this speaking tour is to directly counter the greening of hate through awareness, education and the formation of alliances to defeat racism disguised as environmentalism.

We wish the bikers a safe journey through Arizona!
