Armed Neo-Nazis Hunt Immigrants in Arizona Desert

Chris Bober • Jun 22, 2010

The climate of fear in Arizona’s desert has just reached new levels. Stephen Lemons’ piece in yesterday’s Phoenix New Times clearly illustrates this as he documents his trip with J.T. Ready -a neo-Nazi and border vigilante.

As previously reported by Imagine2050, J.T. Ready is a well-known member of the National Socialist Movement, a neo-Nazi group. According to its website,

“Only those of pure White blood, whatever their creed, may be members of the nation. Non-citizens may live in America only as guests and must be subject to laws for aliens. Accordingly, no Jew or homosexual may be a member of the nation.”

In May, J.T. Ready and his white nationalist friends showed up to the anti-S.B 1070 rally with signs, confederate flags, loaded weapons and the following message, “We are here to defend ourselves. That’s one of our rights here in America.”

Similarly, as reported by Lemons, Ready and his fellow Nazi’s have begun milita-syle patrols in the Arizona desert in order to help law enforcement “apprehend” undocumented immigrants who have crossed the border. They claim they are specifically targeting drug smugglers.

This week the group released an “after-action alert” on its website boasting to its members that they had apprehended three undocumented immigrants and found one dead body. In the same piece, the group features a gruesome and sadistic video with close-up shots of the body and a “apprehended” Latino man they call “Javier.”

Stephen Lemons describes it this way:

Apparently after most of the press had left the area, Ready’s group came across a dead body. They also claim to have encountered three live undocumented migrants. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that they did receive a call from the Border Patrol regarding a dead body, but that the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office ultimately took the call.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner confirmed that an unidentified male body was turned over to them today by MCSO but could offer no other details until an exam is done Tuesday morning. The Border Patrol said it cannot confirm details of three undocumented people being turned over to them.

In a separate piece posted the same day Lemons writes:

However, Hall’s video shows a migrant the Nazis call “Javier,” under the guard of assault-weapon totin’ patrol members. Hall writes that, “Javier was taken into custody by Border Patrol and two others that were part of his party were picked up on the main highway.”

It is a known fact that border vigilante groups attract members with extreme ideologies. However, there is something unique going on in Arizona—well-established extremist groups now feel comfortable and supported in their efforts to “help” out.

And why shouldn’t they? Arizona’s new racist law, SB1070, wouldn’t exist without the efforts of a good friend of J.T. Ready, State Senator Russell Pearce.

Furthermore, border vigilante groups, which have historically included the minutemen and now include neo-Nazis like National Socialist Movement members and J.T. Ready, also have strong support from powerful beltway groups like the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). As reported by Imagine2050,

CIS, founded by John Tanton in 1985, describes itself as a “think tank” and “pro-immigrant”; however, last summer it released a press statement and videos demonstrating that it collaborates with controversial border vigilantes. The press release linked readers to a website called Borderinvasionpics.com. This site operates in conjunction with American Patrol, Glenn Spencer’s anti-immigrant group.

Given the climate created by the support of the John Tanton network, SB1070, and Sheriff Paul Babeu’s questionable public reports that immigrant crime is “off the charts,” it’s no wonder we’ve got heavily armed Nazis running around in the desert.

All of this in the wake of the mysterious murder of two Latino men in Pinal County and the targeting of several immigrants by camouflaged men.

And where is the media? According to Stephen Lemons,

Some irresponsible news outlets are helping Ready appear more mainstream, specifically ABC 15, which in a recent report described Ready’s operation as a “citizens group taking border battle into own hands.

In the end, it’s just disgraceful that this would be happening in Arizona. Unfortunately, as new SB1070-style bills are being proposed in other states and this climate of fear spreads, we may see Nazis and their guns in our own backyards.
