David Horowitz will speak at Tulane University tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24th, at a lecture titled, “From Boston to Jerusalem: How Islamic Jihadism Affects Us All.” The student group, Students Organizing Against Racism at Tulane, will be protesting the event. The protest invitation states:
“We plan to gather various student organizations, faculty, staff, and members of the greater New Orleans community in an intersectional, united front against oppression. We are asking you as a member of this community to come out in an act of solidarity. As a sign of unity, we will wear all black. We will meet in front of Jones Hall at 6:15PM. After the Horowitz talk, we will hold a debriefing session, also in Jones 102. This session will address the talk as well as recent events on campus that have caused some students to feel threatened and oppressed by hateful speech similar to that of Horowitz.”
Horowitz is the founder of the David Horowitz Freedom Center (DHFC) – a far-right think tank that funds “counter-Jihad” activities and targets college campuses, giving horrifically Islamophobic speeches. He and his organization do not limit their bigotry to Islam and Muslims, however. Horowitz’s racist, anti-Black viewpoints are well-documented. Students Organizing Against Racism at Tulane note that, in the past, Horowitz has said, “What about the debt blacks owe to America? If not for the sacrifices of white soldiers and a white American president…blacks in America would still be slaves.”
This year, Horowitz co-wrote Black Skin Privilege with John Perazzo, where the duo claim, “there can no longer remain any doubt that it is the President’s share of melanin that accounts for his seeming impenetrability to the sort of scrutiny and criticism to which a white president, regardless of party affiliation, would have been subjected.”
