Chicago Bikes Beyond Bigotry!

Rebecca Poswolsky • Apr 25, 2012

The Center for New Community is launching its fourth Biking Beyond Bigotry tour this Saturday, April 28, 2012 in Chicago.

Riders from Chicago, including youth from West Town Bikes will participate in a half-day bicycle tour around Chicago’s lakefront.   Afterwards there will be a special screening of Biking Beyond, a short film about the first tour in Arizona.

This tour is intended to encourage young bikers from the Chicago metropolitan area to participate in a dialogue on the intersections of race, migration and the environment.

Biking Beyond Bigotry brings together environmental leaders and activists to speak out against the greening of hate. The first tour took place in 2011 in Arizona. The second tour was in Oregon earlier this year, where a separate group biked 130 miles from Portland to Eugene, Oregon. The third tour took place in April through New England with stops at Middlebury College and Hampshire College.
