Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) took issue with a recent POLITICO/George Washington University poll indicating that 62 percent of Americans support legalization and eventual citizenship for the undocumented. To refute it, ALIPAC released polling that had long exceeded its shelf life, some from as far back as 2005.
“We are releasing 15 prior scientific and certified polls that show the exact opposite of this bogus Politico poll,” said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC, on the site’s blog. These polls were the “true information” that only ALIPAC could search for on Google compile and distribute for press.
The most recent “true information” compiled by Gheen came from 2010—in the two elections bookending the time between then and now, it’s easy to see that public opinion on a number of issues moved substantially. 2005 was an eon ago in public opinion, comparatively. Since Gheen can barely pay anyone at ALIPAC except himself, the lack of effort is no surprise.
