The Alabama Republican Party recently awarded anti-Muslim activist Brigitte Gabriel with their weekly “Rising Republican Star.” The state’s GOP featured Gabriel on their official website extolling her questionable past as well as her accomplishments at combating the fictitious threat of the Islamization of America. The Alabama GOP also commended Gabriel on her founding of ACT! for America – a group that campaigns to pass legislation aimed at the alleged threat they claim Muslims pose to society and the Constitution.
In addition, the Alabama GOP announced that Gabriel will be the guest speaker at the Alabama Federation of Republican Women’s 2013 Biennial Convention on October 26 – 27 in Orange Beach, AL. If Gabriel’s past lectures are of any indication, it can be assumed her speech will be consist of fear mongering and ridicule directed towards Muslims and the religion of Islam. Anti-immigration Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) was initially slated to attend the convention as well, but was later confirmed he would not be in attendance.
The Alabama Republican Party’s endorsement of Gabriel is nothing short of concerning. By praising the anti-Muslim activist and her contributions to the Islamophobia movement, it appears members of the GOP affiliate are more than willingly to align their party with the fringe elements and hateful rhetoric associated with Gabriel.
