Last year, the anti-Muslim ACT! for America began fundraising efforts for a new initiative called “The Thin Blue Line Project.” The project was billed as a one-stop internet resource for information concerning the perceived threat of Muslim infiltration and terrorism in the country. Additionally, the project would combat “political correctness” that “is too often keeping this vital information from law enforcement professionals.” The project has moved forward significantly over the last year and will be debuting in the coming months.
The Thin Blue Line Project has been created with the assistance of John Guandolo – a former FBI agent who spends most of his time alleging conspiracies such as the Muslim Brotherhood’s ever-growing influence in the United States and, more recently, that CIA Director John Brennan is a “dangerously ignorant” Muslim. Guandolo and ACT! have purportedly worked together on the Thin Blue Line Project for three years.
The new website will feature “educational” videos on the Muslim Brotherhood in America. Other features include a web forum where enforcement officials can discuss particular issues and receive answers from “experts” like Guandolo and others on supposed threats in their jurisdictions and a section mapping out businesses, organizations, and even specific individuals the project creators view as a threat or Muslim Brotherhood affiliate. Additionally, the website will have search warrant templates officers can present to judges to further investigate these so-called threats in their communities.
The Thin Blue Line Project may be built under the guise of assisting law enforcement officials in making communities safer, but its true nativist intentions are clear. The Project is being built to provide a “factual” basis for needlessly antagonizing Muslim communities in the country. One only has to look at the project founders’ views on Islam and Muslims to conclude this:
- ACT! founder and President Brigitte Gabriel, in her book They Must Be Stopped, wrote, “It is not yet politically correct to talk about a religious war. But this is exactly what we are facing: a religious war declared by devout Muslims….It’s not radical Islam. It’s what Islam is at its core.”
- During a November 2011 event, Guandolo claimed Muslims “do not have a First Amendment right to do anything.”
Simply put, those behind the Thin Blue Line Project view Muslims as inferior and are actively working to demonize and defame them. The Project is simply an attempt to further belittle communities and advance their prejudiced agenda. How or when exactly the Thin Blue Line Project will be officially introduced remains to be seen. When it is, however, the potential ramifications endured by local Muslim communities could be severe. ACT! is clearly providing law enforcement with this “intelligence” to further advance its paranoid assumptions and fears of American Muslims.
As the controversial and ineffective surveillance of Muslims in New York City shows, profiling certain individuals or groups does little to make communities safer. Rather, it divides them. Americans must not allow nativist organizations like ACT! to succeed in driving communities — Muslim and otherwise — apart.
