Charlotte joined CNC in May of 2010 as a field organizer to implement a national Food Justice Initiative. A native of the Woodlawn community in Chicago, organizing is the foundational principle of her life’s work. Charlotte directed leadership, advocacy and cross-cultural, community-based programs for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for nearly 18 years. Always focused on leadership and justice, her portfolio included leadership development and advancement of women of Color through addressing systemic racism and sexism. Other work focused projects such as anti-racism training and development, the Prison Industrial Complex Women and Children Living in Poverty, HIV/ AIDS Clearinghouse, Violence Against Women, and youth and young adult leadership development. She was named delegate by both the World Council of Churches and Lutheran World Federation to United Nations Congresses in 2000 and 2001; and served with the National Council of Churches – Urban Rural Mission. She has worked extensively with women in Puerto Rico and South Africa, and has worked on advocacy issues with communities in Europe, South America, Zimbabwe, Egypt and Ghana. Graduating Summa Cum Laude with a MSW from the University of Illinois, Jane Addams College of Social Work, she has expertise in community-based efforts that improve the quality of life for families. This work included directorships in the Chicago area, working with homeless families; advocating on behalf of Refugee families; and as an experienced counselor and mentor. She is a highly skilled consultant with over 20 years in multicultural and diversity training and facilitation, professional management and leadership, staff supervision and training, organizational development, and team building. She is a life coach, wellness facilitator and recently acquired several licenses and certificates in environmental standards. |
